Toddler separation anxiety is hard to deal with

boy toddler crying

Toddler separation anxiety:

Toddlers are too young to tell the time, but would benefit from understanding when you will be back.

Your toddler may understand ‘after lunch’ or ‘after Teletubbies’. You can buy a toddler clock which will pop up when time is up. These are often used to show a young child when they can get up in the morning, but can be used at other times too.

Give your toddler something of yours to ‘look after’, preferably something which has your smell, like a jumper. Or you can give them a bag or box of ‘treasures’ for them to sort for you until you return.

If your toddler cries for you as you leave, try not to go back in to them. This will teach them that the crying worked! However hard it is, leave your child with your trusted carer and walk away quickly.
