From Three to Five Years.

telling off

You may find that between three to five years, your child changes a lot in their pre-school behaviour. They may be calm and co-operate with you sometimes, and other times, they may turn into complete monsters!

You will be able to set simple rules such as taking their shoes off or fetching their coat, clearing their plate after dinner. Always remember to praise and reward them with a hug or a story if they do their job willingly.

Children start to care about people's feelings at this age. You can discuss how other people may feel if they have been hurt or if they are sad. They need you to tell them what is right and wrong.

When your child does something wrong, tell him it was wrong and why. Be patient. Try to help him think of a better way to do things. For example, if your daughter starts hitting her brother, explain “Hitting Michael hurts him.” Then ask her to tell her brother why she is angry. This teaches children to use words instead of their fists when they are angry. Sibling rivalry often becomes more of a problem at this stage.
