Potty training accidents

It is very unusual for a child not to have occasional potty training accidents! You may find that your toddler has many accidents and it can be very discouraging.

It may be that your child responded very well to initial potty training, but then started having more accidents later. Potty training regression is quite common, particularly in boys.

Whatever the case may be, try to remain patient and don't be cross with your child.

After each accident take your child to the potty, sit them down and remind them to do a wee in the potty next time.

Don't forget to make a big fuss of them and reward them each time they do use the potty!

Be organised. Make sure you have spare clean clothing easily to hand, particularly if you are going out. Make sure all your children's clothes are machine washable and buy some cheap extra jogging bottoms and underpants if necessary.

If your child is having a lot of accidents, consider buying some potty training underwear. You can buy underpants which look and feel like normal underpants but which are more absorbent.

If you are particularly worried when going out with your child, it is perfectly ok to put a pull-up on them. This may slow the training process down a little if they use the pull-up like a diaper, but may make life considerably easier for you!
