How to avoid conflict: 'Every child loves to argue!'.

how to avoid conflict

How to avoid conflict:

Avoiding conflict is always the best tactic, if it works! If you feel that your child's behaviour is beginning to get out of control, a conflict resolution strategy is to "nip it in the bud"!

Distract your child's attention onto an activity or game. Try to choose a game you know your child loves as they can become wise to this distraction technique if you are not careful!

If this doesn't work, if your child is determined to argue back, walk away. Go out of the room and close the door.

If necessary, lock yourself in the bathroom, if your child tries to follow you, and do not talk to them through the door. Pretend you can't hear - that way they can't argue! You could call out in a friendly voice: "Sorry, Darling, I can't hear you, wait until I come out!"

This might give you and your child some breathing space before an explosion takes place!
