Go through this behavior checklist whenever you feel you're not coping with your child's behavior

Behavior checklist - Ask yourself:

  • What exactly is happening, what has my child done?

  • Why has my child done this? Is it attention seeking, tiredness, not knowing he was naughty, irritation with his brother etc.

  • What can I do to prevent it or stop it from escalating?

  • What circumstances have allowed this to develop, is there anything I can do to change them, or was there something I should have done?

If you learn to ask yourself these questions when your children misbehave, it will help you figure out why your children are acting this way and what you can do about it.

It also stops you from rushing in to sort things out without thinking things through. The breathing space this gives you can make a difference to the possible conflict which might have developed and will help you with your Child behavior management
plans for your children.

An adhd behavior checklist is exactly the same, although you might want to consider other triggers for bad behavior, such as the food your child has eaten. For more information and advice on adhd go to our Behavior Conditions pages.
