Baby separation anxiety

baby separation anxiety

Baby separation anxiety:

At around 6 months, your baby becomes aware of the fact that you exist, even when you are not around! He will start to object when you leave him. This is particularly acute between 8 months to a year, although this can vary depending on the child.

Try to get into the habit of leaving your baby with a trusted carer for short bursts, before he reaches this age.

If this is not possible, make sure you leave something of yours with your baby, ideally which has your smell, such as a jumper.

Don’t return if you hear your baby crying, however much you want to, it will only teach him that this is how to achieve what he wants.

If you are able to leave him for short periods first, try to return when you know your baby is not crying. If this is not possible, persevere anyway. The more often you leave your baby, the quicker he will understand that you do always return!
